Using Sophos Antivirus SBE on a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003

Notes made from Sophos Anti Virus 7.6.20 running on a Microsoft Small Business Server 2003

Sophos Anti Virus is used from two main interfaces both available in the Sophos group in All Programs on the Start Menu

The Control Centre

Protect new computers (this is also where Sophos user credentials for accessing network computers are modified)
Displays the status of updates and infected computers

Anti Virus

Set up new scan or use available scan.
When creating a new scan you need to browse the network for the computers you wish scan.
When you have selected the computer/s you must click “configure this scan” and set the following

Options
“Scan all files”, “Scan for Adware and PUAs” and “Scan for Suspicious Files and Rootkits” should all be ticked.

Cleanup
“Automatically clean up items that contain viruses/spyware” and “Suspicious files” should both be ticked and the “move to” keeping the default location is acceptable until an infection is found that will not move.

Finally, in order to remotely control the scanning of network computers the remote computers personal firewall must be configured to allow Sophos to connect to it. Using Windows XP click:

Start,
Control Panel,
Windows Firewall
Exceptions
Add Program
Browse to “Program Files” , “Sophos” , “Remote Management System”
Add routerNT.exe
OK
