Email not sending? When an email is in sent items has it really arrived or are people pretending not to have received them? Page1 When an e-mail is sent and then you check in the sent messages to see if it has been sent, and it says it has - how much should you rely on that? As I have had some issues with mail not being delivered- is it sitting on the server somewhere? I don't have any problems with messages to some people but occasionally I phone someone and they deny having received anything. Are they telling porkys or could there be a problem? The answer can be all of the above and none of the above. I.e. the mail could be stuck on a server or the recipient might not be honest. The presence of email in a sent items folder is no guarantee that it's been received and there's a whole bunch more things that can go wrong as well. Read on to find our more about email and how it sometimes doesn't get to where you wanted it. If you're sending invoices you will find it seems to be standard practice in some bought ledger departments to deny their receipt. It doesn't matter if your snail-mailing them emailing them or sending them by carrier pigeon. It's the content that will be denied not the method of delivery. But there are technical constraints born of the fundamental nature of email as a method of communication. This analogy to a telephone call demonstrates how not all emails make a conversation: "Expecting email to be received and understood is a bit like picking up the telephone and immediately dialling without checking for a dial-tone; speaking immediately without listening for either an answer or ring-tone; hanging up immediately and then expecting someone to call you (and to be able to call you)." In short if you need to know if someone’s getting your email phone them up while you’re sending it. |
