Hi
The confusion is often down to the jargon.
DNS stands for both domain name system and domain name server, the latter being synonymous with a nameserver.
As well as that folks do refer to “changing DNS” when strictly speaking they should say “changing a DNS record (or zone)” to avoid the confusion between making the change between ”using different nameservers” or “modifying nameserver records”.
We can configure the registrar’s zone record for yourdomain.co.uk according to your IP and MX addresses. Or we can trigger the changeover of authority (managed by Nominet) between our nameservers and a registrar’s nameservers which should complete within 24hrs of sending the instruction (.co.uk names taking a bit longer than .coms etc)
